Standard 8
Standard 8 refers to educators contributing to their profession.
During my practicum I was able to be the schools volleyballs teams coach. Coaching elementary volleyball was a valuable way for me to contribute to the teaching profession. Coaching elementary volleyball has been a tremendously enriching experience for me within the teaching profession. It goes beyond the conventional classroom dynamics, allowing me to connect with students in a different context. Through this role, I’ve strengthened my connection with the students, understanding their unique strengths and challenges in a different context. It’s not just about teaching volleyball skills; it’s about fostering a positive and inclusive environment where every child feels encouraged to participate and grow. As a coach, I not only focus on honing their volleyball skills but also emphasize the importance of teamwork, communication, and resilience. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness the students grow not just as players but as individuals who understand the value of collaboration and sportsmanship. Coaching volleyball adds a dynamic layer to my teaching portfolio, enabling me to contribute to the holistic development of the students I work with, both inside and outside the classroom. Coaching provided me with opportunities to build connection with students whom i wouldn’t of had a change to interact with. I was teaching kindergarten grade 1 so i built connection and relationships in primary but coaching grade 6/7 volleyball allowed me to build intermediate connection not only with students but teachers as-well. Coaching helped me to immerse myself and get more involvement with the schools community.
